Standards

Measurement standards specify the quantities counted, the rules for combining observations into series and the treatment of unobserved quantities. Each standard has a number, a version, a changelog and a persistent identifier. The version used for compilation is identified for every series.

[SBMP-02, source admission and verification: how sources are admitted, how discrepancies between sources are resolved, and how unobserved quantities are reported. Expected [quarter].]

Versioning

Minor versions, such as 1.1 and 1.2, clarify or extend a standard without changing published figures. Major versions, such as 2.0, may change them. In that case, the Institute recompiles the series under the new version and retains both the earlier and revised vintages. Every version has its own identifier, and the standard's paper page carries its changelog.

Constituents

Each series has a published constituent list. It records when instruments were admitted or removed and why. The list appears alongside the series on the programme site and is archived with each vintage.

Unobserved quantities

Quantities that cannot be observed are reported as unobserved, together with the share of the aggregate affected. They are never reported as zero.
