About the Institute
The Institute for Digital Money Statistics (IDMS) is a not-for-profit association under Articles 60 ff. of the Swiss Civil Code. It was founded on [founding date] and is seated in Baden, Switzerland. Its purpose is to compile, publish and maintain statistics and methodological standards for digital money, covering stablecoins, tokenised deposits and central bank digital currencies. These materials are available free of charge for official and academic use.
What the Institute does
- Measurement standards are defined and maintained through versioned specifications, published constituent lists and a public changelog.
- The Institute compiles series from direct observation of the underlying ledgers under those standards. It retains every vintage, allowing figures to be reproduced as published on a given date.
- Research publications address the measurement of digital money and include negative results and corrections.
- The Institute reviews its methods with external researchers and official-sector statisticians. It publishes the outcomes.
What the Institute does not do
- Ratings, rankings, recommendations and evaluations of issuers, instruments or protocols are outside its remit.
- The Institute sells no data, advisory services or subscriptions.
- Funding conditional on content and funding from issuers of measured instruments are excluded. See Funding and independence.
- Price forecasts and market commentary are outside its remit.
How the work is organised
Named researchers author the work. The Institute publishes it and retains editorial control over technical compilation. Each official series vintage requires the Institute's sign-off before release. The procedure is described in the standards and under Governance.
Name and short form
IDMS is the Institute's short form. Statistical programmes have separate names, including Stablecoin Beat for stablecoins. Citations give the Institute's full name at initial mention and use IDMS thereafter.
